
Karen Elam
Karen Elam joined the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester as Director of Community Relations in July 2016. Prior to that she was the Deputy Director of the Rochester-Monroe Anti-Poverty Initiative at United Way (2015-16) and Vice President of Organizational Advancement at Trillium Health, a local community health center (2013-15). She spent a decade working for Avodah: The Jewish Service Corps in New York City (2002-12) as Director of Development and Communications.
From 1990-94, Karen served as a Peace Corps volunteer promoting adult literacy in rural communities and subsequently worked as a cross-cultural trainer in Honduras, Central America. She received her Masters degree in International Education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and her Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Virginia. Karen is married to Howard Solomon and is the proud—and sometimes frazzled—mother of teen triplets Eden, Elias and Leo.
