Student To Student
What is Student To Student?
Student to Student is a bigotry-reduction program for teens that is organized by the Levine Center through the Jewish Federation of Greater Rochester. Our participants, Jewish high school juniors and seniors, give presentations to students in Rochester area schools that have little or no Jewish presence. They talk about their lives as Jewish teens--a powerful antidote to stereotyping and antisemitism.
In public schools, our participants often give presentations to ELA or World History classes studying world religions or the Holocaust. In parochial schools, they present to World Religions or Hebrew Scripture classes. Topics at presentations include the Jewish life cycle, dietary laws, the Sabbath and holidays, Israel, antisemitism and the Holocaust. Many of our participants know what happened to their families during the Holocaust and share their experiences.
Our students receive training by the Levine Center to effectively present the program. Each of our presenting groups has a member of the Conservative, Orthodox, and Reform branches.
